With the integration of information technology and education,it is a general trend for teachers to use various kinds of software to assist teaching.PPT has become one of the most common teaching aids for its incomparable advantages.At the same time,the English Curriculum Standards for Ordinary Senior High School(2017 edition,2020revision)requires senior high school students to be exposed to different multimodal text.Therefore,the research on the application of multimodal PPT in English classroom is very urgent.In this context,the current situation and influencing factors of students’ classroom participation in multimode PPT assisted teaching have become an important research topic.Based on the theory of multimodal discourse analysis and the theory of student engagement,this study takes three teachers and 159 students from the second grade of a city-owned high school in Ningxia as the research subjects.A variety of analysis and statistical methods such as questionnaire,observation,sample analysis and interview are used to explore the situation of senior high school students’ English classroom participation by using multimodal PPT to assist teaching,find out the factors that affect their classroom participation,and finally put forward some practical suggestions for the current problems and influence factors.The aim is to further deepen the integration of information technology and English teaching,improve students’ classroom participation and teachers’ teaching effectiveness.The results show that under the condition of multimodal PPT assisted English teaching,the overall situation of students’ participation in class is good,the emotional atmosphere is good,and the opportunities for students to participate are sufficient.But specifically,there are also some problems.Students’ initiative in behavioral participation is not strong,students’ dependence on peers in cognitive participation is strong,and students’ negative emotions in emotional participation still exist.In addition,under the condition of multimodal PPT assisted English teaching,many factors affect students’ classroom participation,including teacher factors,student factors and other factors.As a result,researcher put forward relevant suggestions for teachers.Firstly,the deigning of multimodal PPT should meet the needs of students’ personalized learning to ensure the possibility of participation.Secondly,deal with the relationship between modern information technology and traditional teaching methods,consolidate the foundation of participation.Thirdly,implement the integration of teaching evaluation,pay attention to the students who do not actively participate,broaden the scope of participation;Fourthly,improve their professional level,care for students’ emotions,prolong the enthusiasm of participation;Finally,establish good interpersonal relationship with students and improve the validity of participation.Through these suggestions,the researchers hope to help high school English teachers pay attention to and improve the application of multimodal PPT in classroom teaching,encourage students to fully participate in English classes,and improve the efficiency of classroom teaching. |
