Under the wave of globalization,each country is actively building cultural industries,and the country’s cultural communication is very important for national image building.Under the trend of cultural integration and development,the idea of mutual appreciation and diversity of civilizations should be adopted in order to promote the influence of China’s culture in the international arena further.Disney’s live-action movie Mulan has received wide attention from scholars and audiences at home and abroad,and Chinese audiences have received mixed reviews of the movie.The film has changed the cultural core of the Mulan story and the Chinese cultural heritage embedded in the original story.Reflecting on the adaptation and dissemination of Disney’s live-action film Mulan is beneficial to the adaptation of the story in a cross-cultural perspective and promotes the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture.In the course of China’s centuries-long history,the story of Mulan has been interpreted hundreds of times.This paper first compares the evolution of the story of Mulan in China,and then summarizes the meaning of the story of Mulan in the minds of contemporary domestic audiences and the connotation of loyalty and filial piety that has always remained the same.Then,the dissemination of Disney’s live-action movie Mulan is sorted out and analyzed.Using Douban short reviews and movie reviews as the research object,the review samples are selected for analysis by using the sampling statistics method,firstly,key words are extracted by using the data crawling method,and then word frequency statistics and analysis are conducted by using software such as micro word cloud.Then,based on the statistical analysis results,the coding theory model was used to sort out Disney’s coding of Mulan’s story from four aspects: Chinese elements,character image,film plot and core ideas.Based on the audience decoding analysis,combined with the cross-cultural perspective,the Chinese and American Mulan stories are compared and analyzed,and it is concluded that Disney’s cultural misinterpretation of Mulan story is mainly reflected in three aspects:character image,Chinese elements and core values.Combining the results of the study,the author analyzes the cultural misinterpretation phenomenon and the cultural differences between China and the West with the help of cultural dimension theory,and believes that the main reasons for the cultural misinterpretation are the differences in language,hierarchy,communication mode,traditional thought and family concept between China and the West.Accordingly,suggestions are made for the overseas communication of Chinese culture in terms of improving one’s own cultural communication ability,reducing cultural discounts,correct cross-cultural coding,and actively developing cultural materials. |
