Xiesheng(谐声)are important materials for studying ancient sounds. The application of harmonic sounds to the study of ancient sounds reached a climax in the Qing Dynasty.Due to the material, the study of initials at this stage is lagging behind that of vowels. The continuous enrichment of unearthed data provides an important opportunity to solve this problem.Based on the closed material of Shuo Wen(説文)this paper synthesizes various theories to explain the problems of Shuo Wen(説文)harmonic tone and variant pronunciation, and discusses the Old Chinese initials(上古声母)from the Phonogram Type(谐声类型),hoping to be beneficial to the in-depth study of this problem in academic circles. The full text is divided into four chapters:The first chapter is the introduction, which focuses on summarizing the previous research status of Xiesheng materials in Shuowen(説文)and the Old Chinese phonology(上古音),and points out the focus, content and methods of this study. The second chapter deals with the homophonic characters involving the Shumu(书母)in Shuowen(説文)(excluding the new supplementary characters),according to the verse, homophonic, interchangeable, etc.,and integrates the various schools of thought to correct or eliminate the misinterpreted characters, and analyze the variant pronunciation in the phonetic system of Shumu(书母).From the perspective of Phonogram Type(谐声类型),the types involved in the book can be divided into three categories. It involves*L-type initials,*T-type initials,and*N-type initials. In addition, some of the initials involve nasal and dental sounds. The third chapter summarizes the types of harmonic sounds of Rimu(日母).The Phonogram Type(谐声类型)of Rimu(日母)can be classified into three categories. The first category is the mutual harmony between Rimu(日母)and nasal initials. The main source of Rimu(日母)is nasal initials. The second category is the harmony between Rimu(日母)and tongue-tooth initials, some of which involve the problem of nasal sounds. The third category is the harmony between Rimu(日母)and dental initials. The fourth chapter combs the phonetic system related to the mother, and concludes that the Phonogram Type(谐声类型)of Yimu(以母)can be classified into four categories. The first type of Yimu(以母)is closely related to the initials of the tooth and throat, but does not involve the initials of the tooth and the flow. The second type is mainly in harmony with the initials of the tongue and teeth, not in harmony with the initials of the tooth and throat. The third type of Yimu(以母)Phonogram Type(谐声类型)belongs to the source of the voiced flow, reflected in the medieaval initials with a large number of Laimu(来母)interlinkedThe fifth chapter is the conclusion, which mainly summarizes the content and shortcomings of this paper.
