The first chapter of this paper focuses on the history of mixed media painting. The history of mixed media painting can be roughly divided into the natural and synthetic material periods, and the development of mixed media painting from primitive art to the present day, with cave paintings, rock paintings, mosaics and contemporary mixed media paintings as the threads.Chapters 2 and 3 focus on the use of ’displacement’ and ’grafting’ in related fields of art, including easel painting, installation art and sculpture. In this context, the author uses the works of Yayoi Kusama and Fang Lijun as examples to analyse the use of displacement in easel painting;the works of Mariko Nanaki and Joseph Beuys as examples. The works of Japanese artists Mariko Nangi and Joseph Beuys are used as examples to analyse the use of displacement in fibre art and performance art.The use of ’grafting’ is exemplified by the work of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, while spatial grafting is used in the soft sculptures of contemporary Melbourne-based mixed media artist Ema Shin and the installations of American female artist Sheila Hicks. In the final chapter,I analyse the work of Ema Shin,a contemporary Melbourne-based mixed media artist, through her soft sculptures and Sheila Hicks’ installations. In the final chapter of this essay, the author uses the theoretical analysis and practical creation of ’displacement’ and ’grafting’ to gradually refine her graduation work.At the beginning of the project, the author used a combination of oil and watercolour to explore the meaning of the "displacement" and "grafting" techniques in turning the images of life,to show the possibility of integration between different creatures, and to explore the deeper meaning of transplantation, grafting, parasitism and symbiosis(in The work is a combination of the feelings of life, the flowers and plants we see and the earth’s environment, which is of concern to society today, and the human organism.)We are in constant contact with the natural world, and to protect it is to protect ourselves. In the middle of the work, the author intervenes in fibre materials, using the traditional weaving techniques of fibre art,and initially explores the shape and colour expression of fibre materials. In the later stages of creation, the author combines a variety of mediums for practical creation, studying the characteristics of materials, the choice of integrated materials and the interpretation of cell division.
