| Oral epic poetry is a kind of narrative poetry,including legendary,historical,and heroic stories.Its narrate the experience and destiny of an ethnic group,tribe and even human beings,and is an intangible language art genre which created in the original oral culture and society,with the construction of ideas,the storage of experience and the exchange of local knowledge as the appeal.Oral epic documentary takes oral epic as the reproduction object,takes the cultural ecology and reality of oral epic as the main narrative content,and is a non-fiction film with documentary materials that emphasizes the creative processing of oral epic art by creators in order to express the cultural,social and artistic value of oral epic and the aesthetic ideal and emotional concept of documentary creators.According to the different narrative content and scattering area of oral epic,oral epic documentaries can be divided into three types: northern ethnic heroic epic documentary,southern ethnic heroic epic documentary,and southern epic documentary with the theme of world creation.Since the founding of China,oral epic documentary have experienced the development of the a period of government-led creation(1956-1980)to the period of multiple types of creators(1981-2001)to the period of populist style(2001-2015)to the period of pursuing market interests and social communication effects(2015-).The purpose of this paper is to study the spatial narrative techniques of oral epic documentaries including the Epic of Zan Wang.The author wish extracts the narrative logic of the narrator to construct the spatial image,and interprets the intentions that the creators try to convey by the narrative space,aiming to provide spatial narrative references for documentary creators to tell oral epic stories well in the future.It is found that in Chinese oral epic documentaries,the creators comprehensively use two spatial narrative strategies: spatial representation and spatial juxtaposition.In the oral epic documentaries,the narrator represents the four types of narrative spaces which has cultural connection to the epic,embodied in geographical environment,cultural landscape,performance situation,and the place that evokes memories,and juxtaposition the sacred space and ordinary site,historical place and modern space,native region and regeneration situation,real scene and imaginary scenario which are connected with the meaning of the epic.Based on these narrative spaces to tell epic story,the narrator help the audience understand the material reality basis of the epic,the cultural habitat in which the epic are nurtured,the art form of the epic,the thinking and expression characteristics of the epic poet,and meet the topophlia of the people of the ethnic group to which the epic belongs,activate their cultural memory about the epic,and strengthen their ethnic identity.It can also highlight the customary value of epic,provide a legitimate historical basis for the modern development of epic,reflect the mutual connotations of epic and other fine arts,and solidify the abstract epic cultural memory. |
