| Zongbaonao is a traditional kind of ritual dance of the Yao ethnic group that originated in Laoaiping Village,Dongkou County,Shaoyang City,Hunan Province.This dance is termed after the performers,who dress in brown clothes,wear palm sheets on their heads,and carry brow-level staffs with ivies around their waists.In 2014,this dance was listed as a State-Level Non-Material Cultural Heritage.This thesis aimed to interpret this dance from the perspective of stage practice by analyzing its cultural context in order to trace its origins and evolving trajectory.This thesis also took into account the geographic environment of this dance in order to find the cultural features of exorcism culture and the posture of the torso forward so as to investigate Yao’s unyielding and fearless spirits.Based on field research in Yao Village,Dongkou County,this thesis extracted and processed Zongbaonao to create the original work Xun and considers its creation and performance with an analysis of its creating means from its structures,movements,and images and an analysis of its performing means from its styles,effects,and emotional expressions.Through the stage practice of Zongbaonao,this thesis provided theoretical and practical support to improve people’s ethnic self-identity.Meanwhile,we hope that this thesis will bring more attention to the Zongbaonao folk dance,leading to greater protection and development of this intangible cultural heritage. |
