| Li Dongyang is a great poet in the middle and front of Ming Dynasty. His poetics thoughts are mainly embodied in Huailutang Poetry, which is a one-volume book. Some fragmentary views can be found in his poetry collection.Li Dongyang’s poetics thought was deeply influenced by Yan Yu.He opposed the malpractice of Jiangxi poetics school of "taking talent as poetry",but expressed that understanding and learning were equally important in poetry creation. He admires the ancient but not the ancient, respects the Tang dynasty but does not derogate the Song poetry excessively, regards the han and Wei ancient style as the respect, but wishes to "learn from the Song dynasty to see the Tang dynasty" in the actual creation. He admired Du Fu and took Du as his mentor, but he clearly recognized the difficulty of cheek-by-jowl du’s poem.He advocated plain and natural but not waste the exercise of words, called on "chant prosperous times" but also wary of skin profiteer. He emphasized the distinction between poetry and text, but advocated "the ancient into the law",the pursuit of breaking away from the bondage of rhythm, and advocated that poetry should be delicate and fresh, high style and elegant. In his poetics, the categories of ancient style and law style, form and truth, elegance and popularity, nature and sewiness seem to be in conflict and opposition, but they are in harmony with each other. The pursuit of consideration and unity in many aspects shows a harmonious temperament. The integration of Li Dongyang’s poetic thought is not only in line with the current situation of the Ming Dynasty’s high-pressure politics and the current situation of the cabinet of ministers wandering in the complex psychology of entering the world and retreating, and the affairs of the king and the dushan, but also with his personal eunuch experience and hometown style, which not only has the sense of noble and excellent travel that arises from the smooth end of his career, but also the acceptance of the idea of the application of the Huxiang spirit through the world, showing the mentality of "official concealment" of using it and giving it up,and the individual temperament has gradually returned to the direction of gentle and peaceful integration. At the same time, the loose temperament of the Chaling group and the richer interaction with friends in the mountains and forests expanded Li Dongyang’s insight and vision, and the resonance with the Yuan Dynasty poet Yu Ji further promoted the formation of the inclusive nature of his poetic thought. The integration of Li Dongyang’s poetics is also reflected in his creative practice. He analyzed the merits and demerits of poetic styles in different times, and studied the Han and Wei dynasties in the creation of ancient style poems, while the modern style poems followed the prosperous Tang Dynasty. The ancient Yuefu poems he created not only show his historical integrity, but also express his innovative writing style, reflecting his exploration of the harmony of tone and rhythm as a poetical critic. In addition,Li Dongyang also imbued the elegant atmosphere of Taige and the distant atmosphere of mountain poems. In his poetical review and analysis,he advocated the realistic concern of Confucianism showing its worldly life and practical use with the gentle and moderate style of the buddhist classics. At the same time,he pursued the leisure and far-off ambition contained in the wind of mountains and forests, showing his true yearning for the poet.It expresses the bi-directional emphasis on the ideological content and artistic style of poetry. The positive aspect of Li Dongyang’s integrated poetics lies in his efforts to clear up the evils of the tai-ge style, introduce the fresh atmosphere of the mountain forest, inherit and carry forward the tradition of the poets in the heyday of the Tang Dynasty, and lead the way for the "former seven sons" to restore the ancient ways. The deficiency lies in the fact that li Dongyang failed to realize the idea of harmony in poetics in his creation due to the limitation of personal thought, and caused the disease of flow easily. The following critics, such as Xie Zhen and Yang Shen, developed the integration of Li Dongyang’s poetics. |
