Presence And Absence

"Presence" is an important concept in German philosophy,"presence" is the manifestation of existence,or the manifestation of the meaning of existence;"Absence" is the existence that does not appear,or the meaning of existence does not appear.In sculpture,it usually means to deliberately hide or reduce the presence of some elements,so as to achieve the effect of strengthening other elements.The application of this technique needs to consider the viewer’s perception and aesthetic psychology.By covering or weakening the sense of existence of some parts,the viewer’s eyes are guided to focus on the core elements of the sculpture,so that the viewer can feel the expressive force and intrinsic meaning of the work more deeply.In sculpture art,"incomplete" has been produced and evolved for a long time,and its existence has passive reasons such as historical damage,natural corrosion,man-made damage and architectural transformation.In the early history,sculptures with "incomplete" consciousness did not have a strict pursuit of image integrity in the early human period.But in line with the development of The Times,artists are no longer satisfied with the pursuit of perfect forms of expression.Artists break the limitation of the original "complete" form through the active acquisition of "incomplete" expression techniques."Incomplete" technique is a method of expression of partial damage to the object of artistic creation,so as to create a feeling of both presence and absence,so as to achieve the supplement and profound expression of concept and emotion.The application of this technique can present a unique sense of beauty and weight,and also trigger the audience’s association and thinking.Through the partial damage of the work or leaving some obvious defects,the audience can feel the authenticity and freshness of the work more deeply.This paper attempts to take "mutilation" as the research object.Based on the existing research results,this paper analyzes the internal and external form characteristics of the natural mutilation of traditional sculpture,studies the form and deep connotation of the active mutilation during creation,and discusses the form of partial presence and partial absence.Thinking about the relationship between material deficiency and concept deficiency,the different ways of thinking and expression of human beings,and the various pursuit and understanding ways of beauty.
