"Ode to Wagtails" is a unique ink manuscript handed down by Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty.It is an ode to the friendship between brothers.Under the influence of "worshipping the king" in the Tang Dynasty,his calligraphy style inherits the style characteristics of the "two kings" in the early Tang Dynasty,and demonstrates the aesthetic preference for plump beauty in the prosperous Tang Dynasty,which has high epochal and artistic value.Under the influence of the era and environment,"Ode to Wagtails" is closely related to the works of calligraphers in the Tang Dynasty,and the study of it is of great significance in the study of running script in the Tang Dynasty.This article summarizes the life of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty,and analyzes and explores the origin and characteristics of his calligraphy.Secondly,introduce the text and related issues of "Ode to Wagtail",conduct in-depth analysis and research on its calligraphy ontology from various aspects such as brushwork,calligraphy,and composition,and then compare "Ode to Wagtail" with other works of Tang Xuanzong’s own running script inscription to explore the similarities and differences between the works,thereby helping us to have a more comprehensive understanding of Tang Xuanzong’s running script and the evolution of calligraphy style.In addition,in the context of worshipping the king in the early Tang Dynasty,the author also compared "Ode to Wagtail" in a larger era environment,and compared it with Tang Taizong’s "Hot Spring inscription","Jin Temple inscription",Lu Kamzhi’s "Wen Fu",and Dunhuang manuscripts,in order to clarify the relationship between "Ode to Wagtail" and other contemporary calligraphers’ works.During the creation,the author conducted a writing practice from temporary study to creation,deeply grasped the calligraphy style characteristics of his works,thereby expanding the learning thinking of the "two kings" style of calligraphy.Combining his own writing characteristics and aesthetic preferences,the author conducted a lot of creative exploration by drawing on the brushwork of Lu Cambzhi’s "Wen Fu" and Tang Dynasty calligraphy,hoping to bring new thinking to his own creative practice.
