| One of the crucial language acquisition abilities across all topic areas is reading. Therefore, this study aimed to find out how well Senior Primary teachers and learners in the Omusati Region of Namibia might benefit from information and communication technology. The goals of the research included identifying the causes of reading problems, the need for ICT to help ESL learners who are having trouble in reading, the challenges senior primary teachers and learners have while using ICT,and lastly, identifying strategies to enhance senior primary teachers’ and learners’ use of ICT in ESL.The research included a case study,a literature review and questionnaires for principals, teachers, and learners. The researcher used a qualitative thematic data analysis method that involved structured interviews with senior primary teachers. The study selected three schools in the Omusati Region,Namibia. The findings indicated that most learners had trouble reading in fluent English, identifying new words, and pronouncing words correctly.Teachers emphasized the use of ICT in ESL for the reason that it fosters student connection, encourages student independence, expands student vocabulary, and encourages learners’ motivation to learn to read.Interviews further demonstrated that adopting ICT can be difficult for both senior primary teachers and learners due to poor internet access,a shortage of ICT facilities, and a lack of ICT knowledge.Teachers suggested that the government should help them with capacity building in ICT.It was also advised that the Ministry of Education take the initiative to bargain with organizations that provide ICT training for teachers in order to secure more affordable tailored ICT training. |
