| An epidemiological survey of mental disorders shows that the lifetime prevalence rate of adult depression in China is 6.8%.The meaning in life has a negative predictive effect on depression.So how to find support resources for those in need and add meaning to our lives in today’s complex world and life is a question that requires us to deeply consider.According to the theory of fear management,nostalgia is an available resource.Current research has shown the impact of nostalgia on the meaning in life,so how does nostalgia affect the meaning in life?This article is based on the body labeling hypothesis,focusing on the emotional dimension of nostalgia while considering the mediating role of behavioral factors;In addition,the mechanism by which nostalgia affects the meaning in life has been revealed through the combination of self-determination theory.Study 1 used questionnaires to explore the relationship between nostalgia,prosocial behavior,optimism and life meaning,and established a mechanism model of nostalgia affecting life meaning.Study 2 provides strong evidence for the mechanism model of nostalgia affecting the meaning in life by manipulating nostalgia.Study 3 further verified the chain mediation effect of prosocial behavior and optimism by manipulating the mediating variable prosocial behavior of the model.The results of the three studies are as follows:(1)Nostalgia is related to a stronger meaning in life,and further experiments induced nostalgia promote the meaning in life.(2)There is no significant difference in overall nostalgia among individuals of different age groups.But in the dimension of personal nostalgia,individuals aged 31-40 are slightly higher than those aged 26-30.There are differences in individual and social dimensions,with individuals aged 18-25 showing a significantly lower level of nostalgia compared to individuals aged 51-60,showing a trend of increasing nostalgia levels with age.(3)Individuals of different age groups did not show significant differences in overall meaning in life.However,there are significant differences in the dimensions of seeking and meaning perception.There is a trend that as individuals age,their pursuit of meaning in life becomes lower,while their perception of meaning in life becomes higher(4)The form of lyrics reading induces a more positive state of nostalgia and generates more positive effects.(5)Nostalgia brings about more prosocial behavior,which further promotes the meaning of individual life.(6)Nostalgia brings more optimism and higher meaning in life.(7)By increasing prosocial behavior,nostalgia brings about higher optimism,which in turn leads to a stronger sense of life. |
