A Study Of The Narrative Perspective Of Female Character Documentaries

Character documentary is a film with "people" as the core,aiming to show the real life state of characters,spread real relationships,reflect their real emotions and the true nature of life.Unlike literary art,video art has the dual functions of presentation and narration,and the expression of video is both audio-visual and cognitive-focused.Female character documentaries take female characters as their subjects and present women’s life through the construction of distinctive characters and the expression of female consciousness.In the creation of female documentaries,the selection and application of narrative perspective affects the way female characters are portrayed and the form of video representation.Through the selection of different narrative perspectives,female character documentaries can present characters in a more realistic and three-dimensional way through innovative audiovisual expressions,diversify the subjects of the film,and realize a multi-dimensional documentary narrative of life.Taking the narrative perspective in documentary production as the starting point,this study attempts to analyse how multiple narrative perspectives are applied in documentary narratives,and to consider the possibilities beyond the conventional paradigm of examining narrative perspectives in character documentaries.The study is divided into four parts.The first part of the study explains the conceptual definition and theoretical basis of "narrative perspective",while illustrating the role of narrative perspective in female character documentaries based on the expression techniques of female character documentaries under different narrative perspectives,analysing the problems that arise in the creation of existing female character documentaries,and concluding that there are still problems in the expression of female character documentaries today.In the second part,we analyse how the multiple narrative perspectives are applied to the audiovisual elements of female character documentaries and make the narrative structure more fluent and comprehensive,in conjunction with the selection and application of multiple narrative perspectives in the graduation work "Spring".The third section explores the significance of the selection and transformation of scene space for the construction of female characters’ identities,and analyses how the different narrative spaces play a role in shaping the three-dimensional and multi-layered roles of female characters.The fourth section summarises the problems,shortcomings and suggestions for improvement in this study.It is hoped that through this research and practical creation,it will provide reference and value for future research on the narrative perspective of female documentaries and the application and creation of female character documentaries.
