The Activity-based Approach to English Learning is an important initiative to implement the subject core competences,reform the way of learning and realize the discipline education.With the introduction of this concept,many scholars and researchers have conducted in-depth studies on it.However,most of the current researches have focused on the design of teaching materials and classroom activities,and there is not enough research on the current situation of the application of the concept.Therefore,it is important to understand how high school English teachers understand and implement the Activity-based Approach to English Learning for reading teaching,to promote the smooth implementation of the new curriculum reform,the development of core competences and the improvement of reading teaching effectiveness.Taking Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives,Input and Output hypotheses as the theoretical bases,the author selected 220 students and 6 English teachers from a high school in H city as the study subject of the survey and adopted three research methods: questionnaire survey,classroom observation and interview,and applied SPSSAU online SPSS analysis software,SPSSAU as the research tool.By analyzing and collecting data,the study intends to answer the follow 3questions:(1)What is the understanding of high school English teachers about the Activity-based Approach to English Learning?(2)What is the current situation of the practice of the Activity-based Approach to English Learning in high school English reading teaching?(3)What difficulties do English teachers have in designing and implementing reading lessons based on the Activity-based Approach to English Learning? What kind of help do English teachers expect to obtain?The study draw the following conclusion,firstly,high school English teachers have a high level of recognition of the Activity-based Approach to English learning,but a low level of understanding awareness of the concept.Secondly,the activity design of high school English reading classes to some degree reflects the requirement of the Activity-based Approach to English Learning,but the actual activity design is not consistent with the concept.Thirdly,the activities are difficult to implement and the teacher thinking that thing need the support of educational authorities,schools and peers.In conclusion,the author puts forward the suggestions as follows: firstly,in order to better promote the implementation of the concept,the education authorities need to provide adequate support and assistance.Secondly,schools need to actively implement the concept and strengthen the training of teachers.Finally,with the support of the education authorities and schools,teachers need to enhance their own professional competence and strengthen their theoretical study of the Activity-based Approach to English learning,implement teaching activities rationally and give full play to students’ subjective initiative.
