Doomsday is an important theme in novels since the 19 th century. This article studies the doomsday imagination in novels through the literary history review, text analysis of classic doomsday novels, writing practice and so on.The main part of this article is divided into six parts. The first part describes the research background, research status, and the research significance. It is believed that there is a relatively lack of research on the doomsday theme in novels in China, especially a lack of specialized and systematic research results; The second part is to sort out the literary history of the origin and development of the doomsday novel, divide the doomsday novel creation into three major stages: the late 19 th century, after World War II,and around 2000.It also defines the concepts of doomsday novels discussed in this article, and distinguishes and analyzes several concepts that are easily confused and related to doomsday novels; The third part classifies the imagination of doomsday into three categories: natural disasters,man-made disasters, and aerial disasters, and analyzes the root causes of the creation of doomsday novel in combination with social backgrounds such as the doomsday theory of western religion and World War II.It believes that the dramatic changes in reality and collective emotions accumulated in history are the important internal roots of the creation and the internal logic of the doomsday novel; The fourth part analyzes the common narrative modes of doomsday novels, analyzes the "Doomsday-Redemption" mode from the perspectives of time, place, and plot, and focuses on the classic doomsday novel "The Road" by the American writer Cormac Mc Carthy; The fifth part is a creative interpretation of the doomsday imagination in my novel "Above the Ruins",which analyzes the spiritual dilemmas of the characters from the perspectives of the doomsday imagination, the virtual reality and future prospects,as well as the value and significance of the novel; The sixth part is a summary. It is believed that the doomsday imagination represents the important social and cultural psychology of contemporary society. It is an important epochal proposition to dispel existing anxiety, rebuild meaning, and seek spiritual homeland in the sense of fragmentation and ruins in the postmodern society and the internet era.
