With the development of the times,the modernization and urbanization of China’s rural areas have accelerated,China’s war on poverty has been won across the board.Through the promotion and support of public policies,China’s agriculture,countryside and farmers have all undergone profound changes.Focusing on the "three rural areas",this documentary is an authentic and sensitive account of this great historical process,of the fate of people,villages and rural culture.Given the audience’s high demand for entertainment and professionalism in documentaries,rural documentaries need to resonate emotionally with the audience on the basis of authenticity,satisfy their spiritual needs,and provoke their thoughts and concerns about rural reality.As the main subject of rural documentaries,farmers appear in society with unprecedented frequency and style,and with the development of the new era,the image of farmers takes on new colors.The preliminary purpose of this paper is to conduct a theoretical study on the formation of the image of farmers.Therefore,this paper takes documentaries on rural subjects in the new era as the research text and adopts the methods of documentary research,case study and field survey to study the image of farmers in the new era.By analyzing the images of farmers portrayed in rural documentaries since the new period,this thesis summarizes the current status of the representation of farmers’ images in existing rural documentaries and outlines appropriate production strategies for shaping typical images of farmers using visualization.The first chapter defines the concept of rural documentaries in the new era and the image of farmers in rural documentaries,and examines its development process.It discusses that since General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed a new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the report of the 19 th National Congress in 2017,the creation of rural documentaries has been characterized by typicality,relevance and authenticity in the context of the new era,and provides an overall overview of rural documentaries in the new era.The second chapter firstly discusses that the new era rural documentaries shape the image of farmers by focusing on individual farmers and using characters to reflect the connotation of the times.Secondly,it lists the "images of farmers who love their homeland and are full of nostalgia" and "images of farmers who adhere to and inherit the traditional culture of the countryside" constructed by the influence of cultural changes in the new era,as well as the "images of farmers in the era of ’rural revitalization’" constructed by the influence of changes in the new era.The image of peasants in the era of ’rural revitalization’,which is influenced by the transformation of the new era.It also cites the typical images of farmers portrayed in documentaries on rural subjects in the new era as support to argue for the problems in the process of portraying farmers in the new era.The third chapter summarizes specific farmer image shaping strategies,using aural perceptual language such as simultaneous sound,narration and music and visual language such as camera,light and color to shape the image of farmers in documentaries on rural subjects in the new era.As well as in the creation of good use of narrative elements for character building,such as choosing the appropriate narrative perspective,using narrative techniques such as storytelling narrative and civilian narrative to deepen the connotation of the image of farmers and express the creative ideas of the work.In the fourth chapter,the author presents a study on the image of farmers in rural documentaries in the new era,based on the creation of the thesis "Cilechuan Cattleman".The author also discusses the background of the work,its content and theme,and advocates the study of the image of farmers in rural documentaries from three aspects: Visual language,sound language and narrative techniques,while explaining the creative gains of the work.This paper focuses on the shaping of farmers’ images in rural documentaries since the new era,analyzes the creative concepts and types of farmers’ images in existing rural documentaries,further reveals the meaning and social value of farmers themselves,and explores the psychological development and aesthetic demands of farmers in the new era.The strategies for shaping typical images of farmers are summarized,aiming to provide new views for the creation of rural documentaries in the new era and to provide valuable references for the creation of farmers’ images.
