Research On The Application Of POA In Oral Chinese Teaching At The Junior And Intermediate Levels Of KNU In Ukraine

Abstract/Summary:
KNU established a Chinese language center in 2004.It has been actively promoting the development of Chinese language teaching in Ukraine.At the end of December 2021,I went to the Confucius Institute at KNU for teaching internship as an international Chinese teacher.I was responsible for teaching oral Chinese at the junior and intermediate levels of the university.I found that students had difficulty in Chinese speaking and suffered the pressure of the HSK Speaking Test.And the initial oral teaching methods I took were no longer able to meet the learning needs of students.In order to improve the teaching effectiveness of the speaking courses,we conducted a survey to students and local teachers to explore the oral teaching methods suitable for the junior and intermediate Chinese learners of the KNU.The Production-Oriented Approach(POA)has a complete theoretical system.It is derived from the practice of English teaching in universities in China.It is similar to the language environment faced by the oral Chinese teaching of the KNU.They both lack the target language environment.After analyzing the questionnaire survey and interviews,we believe that the teaching concept and implementation process of POA have strong feasibility in oral Chinese teaching in KNU.This study attempts to explore the effectiveness of this teaching method in overseas intermediate oral Chinese teaching through teaching practices,and attempts to design the facilitation process to investigate its achievement of oral expression ability.By comparing students’ oral test scores and oral output texts before and after the research,it is found that students have significantly improved their fluency and meaning expression,and have certain improvements in target vocabulary utilization and oral output.The facilitation process of "content-language form-discourse structure" has a promoting effect on learners’ oral expression ability in terms of total number of words,sentence length and duration,and the oral output is getting closer and closer to the requirement of "answering questions" in HSKK(intermediate).In addition,according to classroom observations,Mind Maps can provide an effective learning framework for learners to study after class.The results show that drawing on the teaching philosophy of POA can help improve the classroom efficiency of intermediate oral Chinese teaching at the KNU,promote students’ oral output level,and have a certain role in improving oral paragraph formation ability in terms of total number of words,sentence length and duration.This study combines oral examination with oral teaching,in order to meet the needs of students preparing for the exam,and explore a method to improve oral communication ability that is consistent with students’ Chinese proficiency while meeting the needs of students in preparing for the HSKK test.At the same time,I hope the study can provide certain reference and inspiration for the application of POA overseas,and provide new ideas for oral teaching for Chinese teachers and volunteers in Ukraine.
