The Sabsu clan was a typical Manchu clan in the Heilongjiang region, and the process of the clan’s rise and fall is a reflection of the rise and fall of the Qing dynasty’s history. From the perspective of clan and nation,it explores the development of the Sabsu clan in a macro-historical context,as well as the symbiosis of clan and nation and the feeling of family and nation reflected in the clan’s interaction with the state. The Sabsu clan is one of the most prestigious of the Fuchahara clans, with written clan history beginning when Nurhachi established the Later Jin,and the clan’s ancestors surrendered to the Later Jin and were incorporated into the Eight Banners. At the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, the Sabsu clan was stationed in Ningguita for the purpose of garrisoning the border and protecting the land of the Dragon;During the Kangxi period, the Russians repeatedly invaded the northeastern border and General Sabusu led part of his clan to move to the Aigun region, where the family reached its peak due to the influence of the clan’s heroes and military achievements;By 1900,when the Tsarist Russians unleashed the tragedy of the 64 cantonments in Jiangdong, the smooth development of the clan turned to disintegration and the clan entered a period of weakness.A review of the development of the clan shows that the history of the clan corresponds to the changes in the state and society, and that the family and the state are inseparable. The development within the Sabsu clan was influenced by national politics and the symbiotic relationship between clan and state influenced the development within the clan and contributed to the formation and deepening of clan feeling within the clan.During the establishment of the Qing dynasty, the Sabsu clan supported the Manchu rulers, identified with the development of the country and provided support for the establishment of the Qing dynasty. In the early years of the Qing dynasty, the country was not yet unified and was affected by a combination of internal and external problems. The Sabsu clan was stationed on the frontier to consolidate the Qing dynasty’s rule, resulting in a change of residence. The war and the national policy of land reclamation also influenced the transformation of the production economy from a traditional fishing and hunting economy to an agricultural production economy. The fixed mode of production led to a change in the settlement pattern of the Sabusu clan in the garrison and the formation of fixed villages, which had a positive impact on the national control of local and regional development. In the process of change within the clan by internal and external factors, the Sabusu clan’s fine family style of ancestry, martial arts and patriotism was formed, and through the influence of these factors, the heroic image of General Sabusu was created, and his deeds were sung and told by the clan from generation to generation, forming the Ulleben, which is rich in educating future generations and recounting history,in which family and national sentiments are embedded. The symbiotic relationship between family and country has contributed to the Sabsu family’s ability to adapt to survive the floods of change in history, and the sense of family and country has contributed to the Sabsu family’s sense of national identity. The Sabsu clan in the Chinese family incorporates intertwined emotions from within and without, and the ups and downs of the social context side by side reflect the common sense of the Chinese nation forged by the Sabsu clan.Through the history of the clan building the development of society, the close relationship between clan and nation reveals the evolving spiritual core of the Chinese nation.
