| The "Qiang Basin" one of the earliest national first-class cultural relics, holds significant value for studying the history of the Western Zhou Dynasty and is thus known as a "National Treasure".Since its discovery in 1976 and subsequent inclusion in the Shaanxi Zhouyuan Museum, research on its inscriptions has been a focal point in paleography and archaeology. However, the study of its calligraphy and seal carving art has received little attention from scholars. In learning calligraphy art, selecting appropriate rubbings is essential. With the multitude of“Qiang Basin” rubbings available, discerning their authenticity and quality becomes particularly crucial for calligraphy learners.Rubbings made before and after the cleaning of the unearthed“Qiang Basin” exhibit distinct artistic expressions, suggesting that calligraphy learners at different proficiency levels can selectively study rubbings from various historical periods, tailoring their choice to their individual aesthetic preferences. The high auction prices of rubbings from counterfeit basins over several years can be attributed to the unfamiliarity of“Qiang Basin” rubbings among calligraphy enthusiasts, making authenticity difficult to discern. The subtle differences between silicone mold rubbings and original rubbings are even more challenging to recognize.By collecting and comparing 37 types of “Qiang Basin” rubbings, suitable examples for practice was identified, the calligraphy and seal carving art characteristics of the inscriptions were delved, and contemporary Jinwen calligraphy works and previous seal carving styles were examined adopting the “Qiang Basin” style.Ultimately, the unique artistic and aesthetic value of the “Qiang Basin” inscriptions was summarized. |
