The History Of Chinese Historiography In Book Reviews During The Republic Of China

In the 1920 s,Liang Qichao put forward the history of historiography as a special history and proposed the idea of writing the history of Chinese historiography,In the past10 years,Wei Yingqi’s “History of Chinese Historiography” changed the concept from theory to reality,including Jin Yufu,Zhu Xizu,Gu Jiegang and other practical historiography works.At the same time of the emergence of monographs,there are also a lot of book reviews,which involve the stages of the history of Chinese historiography,the content of the history of historiography,how to write the history of history and other issues.Most of the reviewers are famous scholars at that time.They put forward their opinions from the professional perspective,mainly discussing,supplementing and offering suggestions.These opinions enrich our understanding of the history of Chinese historiography in the Republic of China.Moreover,in terms of Chinese academic history in the 20 th century,historians should accurately evaluate the research level of Chinese historical history in this period.These book reviews are another dimension for us to observe the level of Chinese historical history during the Republic of China.It is precisely because these book reviews have something to say and have a target,we can accurately reevaluate the actual situation of Chinese historical history during the Republic of China.This paper will be divided into four parts to explain: the first chapter briefly combs the research results of Chinese historiography in the Republic of China period and analyzes the reasons why the author chooses these three works.The leap from theory to reality was not accomplished overnight,and the publication of the works could not be achieved by one person working hard behind closed doors.The continuous accumulation of historical achievements in the 1920 s and 1930 s laid the foundation for the emergence of the works in the 1940 s.As the first monograph on the history of Chinese history,Wei Yingqi’s“History of Chinese History” is of great importance,and Jin Yufu’s works are still regarded as the representative monograph on the history of Chinese history at that time.In addition,Modern History written by Gu Jiegang,We can have a comprehensive understanding of the scholars of the Republic of China on the history of Chinese history from ancient times to the present.In Chapter two to Chapter four,the author systematically analyzed the reasons for the preparation of three works,including Wei Yingqi’s “History of Chinese History”,Jin Yufu’s“History of Chinese History”,Gu Jiegang’s “Modern Chinese History”,as well as the main contents and reviews of Modern Chinese History.In order to get a more detailed understanding of the content and quality of the reviews,we have to go back to why the books were written and what they were about.Each of the three books has its own characteristics.The number of reviews basically reflects the quality of the books.Finally,on the basis of sorting out the content of the book review,the author summarizes the scholars’ views on the history of Chinese history.The first is the problem of the history of historiography,the second is the problem of what should be written about the history of historiography,the third is the history of historiography compilation,narration and other specific issues,critics from the professional perspective,heated discussion,most of the issues discussed are still after 1949,even today,scholars in writing the history of Chinese historiography should pay attention to the problems.Taking a comprehensive view of the research status of Chinese historiography in the Republic of China period,we can see that the research of Chinese historiography in the Republic of China period is groundbreaking and basic,and attaches great importance to the research of modern and contemporary historiography history,but it is still a little weak in theory.
