A Report On The E-C Translation Of "Neurological Associations Of COVID-19"

With the continuous improvement of healthcare service in China in recent years,there is a growing demand for communication with international health experts and workers.Medical translation is in full swing.Using Newmark’s Text Typology Theory as a guide,this report discusses the linguistic characteristics of a medical research paper entitled "Neurological Associations of COVID-19" and summarizes the specific translation methods used for the Chinese translation of the paper."Neurological Associations of COVID-19" is an informative text involving many medical terms and acronyms at the vocabulary level.It also uses long and complicated sentences that are objective,accurate,and rigorous.When translating such a text,the translator needs to seek a dynamic balance between adopting semantic and communicative translation methods.This report is divided into five chapters.Chapter One briefly introduces the background for the E-C translation of "Neurological Associations of COVID-19" and describes the purpose and structure of this report.Chapter Two discusses the usefulness of Newmark’s Text Typology Theory for medical translation practice.Chapter Three summarizes the preparation work regarding the translation project,including text analysis and the compilation of a bilingual glossary.Under the guidance of the communicative translation principle,Chapter Four analyzes the characteristics of the source text at the vocabulary and sentence levels and selects representative examples to analyze translation techniques and methods used.The last chapter summarizes the practical lessons learned and the limitations of this report.
