The opera <Turandot> was composed by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini,and is also his last opera left to the world.In this play,Puccini’s portrayal of each character is meticulous,the dramatic charm displayed between the characters is also deeply rooted in the hearts of the people,and the music composed is also full of extreme tension,showing magnificent expression.Puccini usually presents his aesthetic ideas in poignant love stories,thus creating the artistic value of his characters.In the opera <Turandot>,he revolves around the love and hate between the three protagonists Turandot,Calaf and Liu as the main storyline,and promotes the development of the storyline with the theme of love and longing.This thesis takes the opera <Turandot> as the research object,and focuses on the dramatic image and musical performance of the tenor character Calaf through the author’s study and singing of this play.Through the analysis of the two arias of Calaf,the dramatic and singing characteristics of the characters are explained,so as to analyze how the composer shapes the dramatic image of the characters and presents different musical characteristics.The first part gives a brief description of the plot of the opera and the relationships between the characters in it.The second part analyzes the dramatic image of the characters through parts of Calaf’s singing.The third part analyzes Calaf’s musical performance and singing characteristics through the singing analysis of Calaf’s two arias,combined with my own performance practice.
