| The Buddhist cliff carvings on Mount Zhonghuang in the Northern Qi Dynasty were built under the leadership of the ruling class of the Northern Qi Dynasty.They are famous for their large scale,numerous characters,and complete length,and are representative relics of the Yecheng region’s carvings.The Buddhist thought of the end of the Dharma was deeply rooted in the late Northern Dynasty,and the Buddhist cliff carvings represented by the Zhonghuang Mountain carvings reflected the influence of the Buddhist thought of the end of the Dharma on the Buddhist art of the Northern Dynasty.In the historical context of the "differentiation between Chinese and foreign cultures",rulers of northern ethnic minority regimes such as Later Zhao,Northern Wei,and Northern Qi chose to construct their national ideology through Buddhism,and large-scale Buddhist undertakings such as Zhonghuangshan scripture carving were cultural products of the implementation of the traditional Buddhist governance by the Northern Qi monarchy.In addition,the six Buddhist scriptures involved in the Zhonghuangshan carved scriptures are all classic masterpieces of Mahayana Buddhism,and the spirit of Mahayana Bodhisattva runs through them.The dissemination of Mahayana Buddhist ideas in the late Northern Dynasty is evident.The calligraphy style of Zhonghuangshan Inscription is unique,with exquisite stippling and carving,presenting the highest level of calligraphy and carving during the Northern Dynasty.The trend of "retro" under the style of calligraphy during the Northern Qi Dynasty was an important reason for the formation of the style of "half script and half script" in the Zhonghuang Mountain inscriptions.As a unique form of Buddhist art,Zhonghuangshan carved scriptures possess characteristics such as functionality,religion,and artistry.The Buddhist artistic characteristics have had a significant impact on the calligraphy style of Zhonghuangshan carved scriptures.The Zhonghuangshan Scripture Carving is not only a significant large-scale Buddhist undertaking,but also adds calligraphy art treasures to the treasure trove of ancient Chinese art.Studying the carved scriptures of Mount Zhonghuang can reveal from one perspective the process of the development and establishment of Mahayana Buddhism in the Middle Ages,and examine how Buddhist aesthetic concepts participated in the construction of Chinese artistic spirit. |
