The material for this translation practice is excerpted from British author Alice book Rock Paper Scissors, which is a novel with a suspense theme. The original excerpt is the first six chapters of the book. These chapters mainly describe the famous screenwriter Adam and his wife Amelia in order to save their marriage problems,to the deserted Scottish Highlands for a weekend, but on the journey frequently occurring bizarre things. Each chapter of the novel unfolds from the perspective of a different character, and the plot reversals and shifts in perspective reflect the original author’s ingenuity. The text type is mainly expressive, and the expressive text is characterized by the original text itself, and the translation needs to be based on the language characteristics of the original text itself. This report consists of four parts: translation task description, translation process description, translation case analysis, and translation practice summary, and the case analysis is the core of this report. The two very important elements in a mystery novel are the rendering of the setting and the language of the characters, which in turn include monologues and dialogues. In addition, the translation of letters in the original text is also worth exploring. The author constructs the case analysis section based on these. This translation practice task is guided by relevance translation theory and analyzes a series of practical cases to explain why and how to apply a certain translation method.Having gone through this translation task, the translator has learned that there is still a long way to go to become a qualified translator. It is also hoped that this report will provide some reference for translators engaged in the practice of translating similar texts.
