Analysis Of The Character Image Of Xia He In The Opera "Yimeng Mountain"

The large-scale ethnic opera “Yimeng Mountain”,which officially premiered in Jinan in December 2018,tells the story of the revolutionary base of Yimeng Mountain during the War of Resistance Against Japan,where the military and civilians rallied together to fight against Japanese aggression.The character Xia He has a distinct personality and a deeply ingrained image.This article is divided into three parts to study Xia He as a character.The first part is an overview of the large-scale ethnic opera “Yimeng Mountain”,which outlines the historical background of Xia He by outlining the main creative team,character personality,and story plot,and provides a preliminary understanding of the character’s image positioning.The second part explores the musical style characteristics of Xia He’s main arias,explores the portrayal effect of the board style lyrics on characters and the promotion effect of the board style changes on characters’ emotions,and analyzes the integration of Eastern and Western musical elements in the arias.The third part discusses the diverse character characteristics of Xia He,starting from the multiple identities that the character possesses,and exploring the diverse characteristics of the character from two aspects: the “resilient and kind revolutionary image” and the “gentle and loving mother image”.I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the characters in the play through research and better interpret the character in practice.
