The Research On The Renwu Zhi Of Liu Shao

The Renwu zhi is one of the few extant texts from the the middle ancient times with a systematic thinking on character judgement.This thesis uses the metaphor of the mirror to provide a systematic analysis of Renwu zhi using two perspectives: "observing stillness","observing motion".It is divided into three chapters.Chapter 1 provides background research,mainly outlining the research context and evaluative characteristics of Renwu zhi.Firstly,it sorts out the ideological background of Yin Yang,Confucianism,Taoism,Legalism and the School of Names in Renwu zhi from the perspective of "seek social order" and believes that Confucianism is the main thread.Secondly,it introduces the background of the Judgement background of Renwu zhi from three parts: the origin of character judgement,changes in evaluation standards,and the status quo in the Han and Wei Dynasties.Thirdly,it explores the theory of disposition and systematic nature of Renwu zhi.Finally,it analyzes the framework logic and name setting of the ideal official appointment system of Renwu zhi.Chapter 2 systematically sorts out the text of Renwu zhi using the metaphor of a mirror.Firstly,it presents different types of personalities such as sages,partial talent holders,comprehensive talent holders,and other personality traits.Then,combining with the contents of "Observing from the Eight Points of View",“The Seven Errors”,and "The Difficulty of Obtaining Result",it provides an integrative analysis of how difficult it is to identify people in "observing motion".Finally,the thesis concludes two paths in cultivating virtue,namely "study" and "forbearance" on the inside,"modesty" and "comity" on the outside,believing that these paths can indeed connect with Confucian’s theory of "the self-restraint and return to ritual".Chapter 3 explores the aesthetic value of Renwu zhi from the perspective of the aesthetics of life.Firstly,it clarifies the aesthetic method of the personalities represented in the mirror.Secondly,it affirms the importance of the difference beauty of personality,and then provides an analysis of why personality with partial talent cannot recognize such beauty and how to solve this problem.Finally,by analyzing the "The Book of Changes",“Tao Te Ching” and Confucian philosophy in the chapter "Dissolving Rivalries",the thesis explores why Renwu Zhi is able to develop a life aesthetic and affirms that Renwu Zhi brings clarity and beauty to life.
