The 2022 compulsory education curriculum standard proposed that understanding skills and expression skills complement and promote each other in the process of language learning.As an expressive skill,writing is one of the essential English skills for junior high school students.However,writing has always been the weakness of students’ English learning.The problems of students’ English writing are as follows: the content of writing is not closely related to the theme;the structure lacks logic;and there are many language mistakes in composition.One of the reasons for this phenomenon is that students cannot transfer reading knowledge well into writing.The reading and writing integrated teaching model can solve the problems of separation between reading and writing,and effectively combine reading and writing.In addition,the view of English learning activities aims at promoting the development of students’ English core competencies,takes students as the main body and takes activities as the path,providing methods for teaching and learning.Through a series of comprehensive,relevant and practical learning and understanding,application and practice,and transformation and innovation activities,it can effectively promote learning transfer and help students transfer the knowledge learned in reading into writing.Therefore,this thesis aims to apply the reading and writing integrated teaching model to English writing teaching in junior high school based on the view of English learning activities,and try to answer two questions:(1)How can teachers effectively design reading and writing integrated teaching activities based on the view of English learning activities?(2)What are the effects of the reading and writing integrated teaching activities based on the view of English learning activities on junior high school students’ English writing?Since September 2022,a three-month action research was carried out in Class 9,Grade 2 of a junior high school in Shenyang.Classroom observation,teaching journals and interviews as research instruments were used for qualitative analysis,and tests were used for quantitative analysis.The action research was divided into two rounds.Each round of action research was divided into five steps: identifying problems,making plans,implementing plans,reflection and evaluation,major achievements and problems.The results show that: First,teachers can design learning and understanding activities in pre-reading phase and reading phase,design application and practice activities in information processing phase,and design transformation and innovation activities in discussion phase and writing phase to help students apply and transfer the knowledge learned in reading into writing.Second,reading and writing integrated teaching activities based on the view of English learning activities has a positive effect on junior high school students’ English writing.The overall writing level of students has been improved,with the most significant improvement in the content of students’ English writing,as well as slight improvements in organization,vocabulary,language use,and mechanics.
