Throughout the history of artistic civilization development, each period has left behind many legendary classics, and the Dutch school of painting,Rembrandt,is no exception. The mystery of these classics lies in their emotions and connotations that are difficult to express in words. If the techniques, language, and symbols of painting alone cannot provide a comprehensive analysis of their classic works,it is also a desecration of art.Among so many surviving classics,we should not only appreciate their techniques, language, and symbols, but also deeply analyze the emotional expressions in the paintings.Emotion is the original vitality of painting. If there is no emotion or a lack of emotion in the painting, the picture looks soulless, and this kind of soulless picture will not be recognized by people.Just like machine painting,it only copies the original scene objects without subjectivity and completely objectively. This kind of painting is more like photos, lacking soul, and emotions can be divided into many types: joy, surprise, sadness Fear is all emotions.Through the study of emotions in Rembrandt’s paintings, the author first aims to find the objective theoretical basis for the generation of sadness in Rembrandt’ s paintings, analyze the reasons for the generation of sadness in Rembrandt’ s paintings, and then find strong evidence to prove it through the facial expressions of characters in the " Self Portrait of Later Years".Then,by studying the expressive forms of Rembrandt’s paintings,we analyze the relationship between composition and sadness, color and sadness, and light and shadow and sadness. The impact of the emotional expression of sadness in Rembrandt’ s paintings was further explained. And taking the expression of emotions as the focus of my creative work,I learned how Rembrandt expressed emotions so infectious and vibrant.Through this study and summary of the sad emotions in Rembrandt’s oil paintings,I have brought a qualitative improvement in my learning and painting skills.
