A Study On Variants Of Four-character Words In Modern Chines

In modern Chinese,there are a number of four-character words with different morphemes and identical meanings(such as “bie ju yi ge” and “du ju yi ge ”).In this paper,these words are regarded as variants of the same word-alien variants.So far,the academic circles have not fully studied the scope of the variants of the four-character words in modern Chinese,the types of relationships between them,and the norms of the variants of the four-character words.On the basis of extensive investigation,this paper collects more than 280 groups of four-character word variants,combs the relationship between the variants,and counts the frequency of use of each variant.On this basis,it puts forward some suggestions on the standardization of the four-character word variants included in its reference book.The main content of this paper is divided into three parts,as follows :The first part examines and determines the scope of variants of four-character words in modern Chinese.First of all,a comprehensive statistics of the four normative dictionaries of “Modern Chinese Dictionary ”,“ Idiom Dictionary”,“ General · Irregular Idiom Dictionary ” and “Chinese Four-character Dictionary”,a total of 287 groups of four-character morpheme variants were obtained.Among them,204 groups of single character variants and 83 groups of double character variants.In the second part,explored the way of generating four-character word variants.The analysis shows that the four-character word variant has two types of synonymous morpheme substitution and class morpheme substitution.The frequency of use of different morpheme variants of four-character words was investigated.The investigation is carried out on double variants and three variants respectively.Statistics show that the use frequency of different variants varies greatly,and some are close.This work is the basis of the normative work below.The third part puts forward some suggestions on the standardization of the four-character word variant in the reference book.On the basis of investigating the variation of four-character words in the main reference books,the author puts forward his own views on the terms used in the annotation and the judgment of the main entries.This paper can provide valuable reference for Chinese idiom research,four-character research,Chinese word formation research and word position theory research.
