Critical Logic Based On "photography":a Study Of Douglas Crimp’s Art Theory

At the end of the 20 th century,a large number of periodical art critics appeared in the United States,among which the most representative was the October School.Douglas Crimp(1944-2019)was the core research member of the magazine in its early stage,and his theory was of great value to the development of post-modern art and criticism.In his theory,“photography” is always an art form.The "Picture" exhibition he planned in 1977 successfully launched the group of "The Pictures Generation" artists,which established the historical status of The Pictures Generation photographic artists.Douglas Crimp later modernist photography back modernism’s traditional painting,and then show the "end" of modernism,which is bearing the weight of the tradition of the modernist art museum for the generation of postmodern art became the "ruins",therefore,in his view,this kind of photography to painting "occupy" led to the collapse of traditional museum system,based on this,Crimp put forward the theory of "Museum ruins",which provides a theoretical support for the expression of the new avant-garde art represented by "photography".Douglas Crimp’s new avant-garde art theory and his attitude towards postmodernism both aim to reveal Crimp’s critical position: he clearly criticizes conservative discourse such as neo-expressionist painting and clearly supports postmodernism that continues the position of avant-garde art.Crimp’s perspective of "photography" as a critique to form a set of new criticism logic: when photography replaced painting as one of the post-modern art expression and overturn the traditional painting,will enter the museum becomes critical means the new system,thus build the Crimp’s on the double critical theory of post-modern art and museum system,and the theory,published in the journal October.Based on this,this paper will carry out analysis and research from the theoretical sources,exhibition practice,criticism of museum system and other dimensions,and explore the logic behind The criticism of Photography and art system represented by criticism of museum system,in order to have a clear understanding of The theory of Crimp.
