In college English reading teaching,the improvement of reading ability and interest can not only improve students’ reading scores,but also help improve their comprehensive abilities.Theme-based CBI based on Unipus actively adjusts students’ cognitive activities in college English classroom teaching,cultivates students’ interest in English reading,and meets students’ real needs.This study constructs a theme-based CBI model based on Unipus(online learning platform)to enable students to play their main role in self planning,attention,monitoring,and evaluation.Under the guidance of metacognism theory,constructivism theory,and humanism theory,this study constructs a new type of college English reading teaching model through theme-based CBI,effectively combining Unipus and theme-based CBI.A total of 82 non-English majored in Shenyang Normal University,Grade 2022,are selected for empirical research,and experimental and control classes are randomly selected.The experimental class uses theme-based CBI based on Unipus for classroom teaching in reading classes,while the control class uses the traditional reading teaching model based on Unipus for teaching.The two classes are taught by the same teacher and uses the same teaching materials for a semester of experimental teaching.The purpose is to explore the following three issues:(1)What is the current situation of college English reading teaching based on Unipus?(2)How does the application of theme-based CBI based on Unipus in college English reading teaching affect students’ reading interest?(3)Compared to traditional reading model,how effective is the use of theme-based CBI based on Unipus in college English reading teaching in improving students’ reading ability?After a session of research,a pre-questionnaire and a post-questionnaire,a pre-test and a post-test,and an interview are used to understand students’ attitudes and learning effects towards theme-based CBI based on Unipus.Through the analysis of SPSS27.0 software,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Students are willing to understand and use the Unipus in college English reading,but their enthusiasm is not high.(2)Compared to the control class,the students in the experimental class can more actively use relevant reading methods and have more interest in English reading.(3)Compared to traditional teaching model,students’ reading proficiency in theme-based CBI reading teaching based on Unipus has improved significantly.Applying theme-based CBI in college English reading teaching based on Unipus is a new attempt,which provides a new research perspective and practical support for reading teaching research.
