As a pre-Qin linguistic literature,The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi records the words and deeds of Yan Ying,a politician of the Qi state during the Spring and Autumn period. The unique language style of The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi not only shapes many characters with distinct personalities but also records a large number of speeches and deeds, which has attracted widespread attention from later generations to it.The formation of the text of The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi is the foundation for its study.Specifically speaking, the formation of its text has gone through two stages:its text was initially formed during the Spring and Autumn period, and after the end of the Spring and Autumn period, due to the continuous expansion of the spread of Yanzi’s stories, its main text was formed during the Warring States period was formed.Sima Qian of the Western Han Dynasty stated in his Records of the Grand Historian: Biographies of Guan Yan that he had read The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi. When Liu Xiang compiled the classics of the previous dynasty,he referred to The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi as Yanzi.Through the existing versions and annotations of The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi,we can research its attribution in the bibliography and its ideological trend, which provides more documentary guarantees for us to study its text style and literary influence. As a stylistic literary work, the style of The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi is closely related to “language”.Through the text analysis of The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi,we believe that its stylistic type can mainly be divided into question-oriented and matter-oriented styles. The unique stylistic type of The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi plays a crucial role in shaping character images. From the perspective of language style,Yan Ying’s “virtue” and “wisdom” are fully demonstrated, and the contradictory image of King Jing, who is fatigued and wise,is also vividly described. However, the image of Jing Gong in The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi is similar to the monarch image described in other literary works of the pre-Qin and Han dynasties. It can be said that the image of Jing Gong in The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi belongs to the monarch image with typological characteristics in linguistic literature. The stories recorded in The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi, such as Yanzi’s envoy to Chu,Yanzi’s discussion, and his relationship with Tong and Yanzi Qiu,have always been talked about with great interest.Although Yanzi’s story in the evolution of later refined and popular literature may not necessarily be directly taken from The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi,The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi,as an important carrier of Yanzi’s story, directly or indirectly influenced the processing or transformation of Yanzi’s story in later poetry,fu,novels, operas, jokes, and allegorical sayings.Compared with the Yanzi’s stories recorded in The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi, some literary works in later generations incorporate more exaggerated and popular factors.Their plots have more twists and turns than The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi, which can more easily attract the public’s attention.Based on previous literature on popular fu,novels, and operas, this article adds materials related to the story of Yanzi and the text content of The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi in literary works such as literati fu,jokes, and allegorical sayings,in order to explore the spread and evolution of Yanzi’s story centered on The Spring and Autumn Annals of Yanzi from a broader perspective.
