At present,learning adaptability has become one of the research focuses for many researchers since it can affect the individual’s academic achievement,mental health development as well as the level of their social adaptation in the future.Learning adaptability is the tendency or capacity of learners to actively make physical and mental adjustment according to the changes in learning environment and their learning needs,so as to achieve a balance between internal and external learning environment and o btain good learning results.Agentic engagement is students ‘constructive contribution into the flow of instruction they receive.It is a new dimension and research direction of learning engagement and can affect the individual’s class performance and academic achievement.At present,relevant studies mainly focus on the relationship between the learning adaptability and learning engagement,and there are few studies on the relationship between agentic engagement and learning adaptability in specific subjects,especially English learning.In view of this,this paper uses questionnaire and interview as data collection tools,710 college students in Shanxi Province as research participants,through quantitative research methods of descriptive analysis,correlation analysis and linear regression analysis of questionnaire data and qualitative research methods of interview analysis,analyzes the current situation of college students’ English learning adaptability and agentic engagement as well as relationship between them and summarizes the internal reasons and relevant research enlightenment so as to improve their English learning adaptability and agentic engagement.This paper will solve following questions:(1)What is the current situation of English learning adaptability of college students?(2)What is the current situation of English learning agentic engagement of college students?(3)What is the relationship between English learning adaptability and agentic engagement of college students?The results are as follows:(1)College students’ adaptability to English learning is at a relatively high level,and adaptability to English teachers is the highest compared with other dimensions.(2)College students’ agentic engagement in English learning is at a high level,and cooperating with teachers in teaching is the highest compared with other dimensions.(3)There is a positive correlation between college students’ agentic engagement and learning adaptability in English learning.The specific condition of dimensions are as follows: Cooperating with teachers in teaching can predict all dimensions of English learning adaptability;Helping classmates learning can predict the adaptability to English teachers,teaching environment,teaching content and teaching mode;Studying hard alone can predict the adaptability to English teachers and internet-based learning;Assisting teachers in teaching does not predict any dimension of English learning adaptability.
