| “Die Himmel erz(?)hlen die Ehre Gottes” SWV 386(hereinafter ‘Die Himmel’)is a choral work for six mixed voices in G Dorian by Heinrich Schütz.From around 1600(some believe around 1580)to 1750,this century and a half is known as the Baroque period in Western music history.Large number of his choral works were composed in the early Baroque period,and he transposed the Italian style into traditional German polyphony.Schütz’s religious music works are known as the highest examples before Bach and laid the foundation for the development of German music in the late Baroque period.The rehearsal method of this work will be used as a clue to explain the general ways that the conductor can approach when rehearsing works in similar period,so as to summarize a set of effective choral rehearsal method.The first chapter briefly describes the choral development of the early Baroque,which is divided into three sections,including: the choral characteristics and development of the early Baroque;the stylistic characteristics of Schütz’s religious works;and the introduction of the work " Die Himmel ".This chapter intends to take the early Baroque music style as a starting point,and to prepare for the detailed description of the stylistic characteristics and rehearsal methods of this work of Schütz.The second chapter contains two sections,mainly analyzing the musical structure and music style characteristics of the work.And it provides a theoretical basis for the exploration of rehearsal methods in Chapter 3.The third chapter further clarifies the rehearsal method of Schutz’s work from the German religious text and rehearsal method and the rehearsal method of polyphonic multi-part chorus. |
