Edvard Grieg was the most important composer of his generation in Scandinavia and a major promoter of Norwegian music.The Sonata for Cello and Piano in a Minor,composed between1882 and 1883,is the only complete work for cello and one of the largest chamber music works.This work cites the Norwegian folk music and the motivations of Grieg’s earlier works,reflecting his mature compositional skills and very good use of folk music.The thesis intends to explore the relationship between the musical characteristics and performance interpretation of Sonata for Cello and Piano in a Minor.Through the analysis of creative background,musical form,harmony and style etc,to guide the Cellists understand the background and structure of the work,grasp the musical image of the work.
