Teachers are the first resource of education, undertaking the historical mission of educating people for the party and the country, and shouldering the important task of cultivating socialist builders and successors.Teacher’s characteristics are one of the key factors to improve the quality of school education.Teacher’s personal characteristics will affect students’ academic achievement to varying degrees. With the deepening of the research on teacher’s characteristics, the analysis of teacher’s characteristics based on qualitative research cannot accurately identify which teacher’s characteristics will affect junior high school students’ English academic achievement.By collecting a large number of data, using quantitative research method and integrating qualitative research, this paper provides a new perspective for exploring the impact of teacher’s characteristics on junior high school students’ English academic achievement. With the help of SPSS and semi-structured interviews, this paper analyzes the impact of teacher’s characteristics on junior high school students’ English academic achievement, aiming to answer the following three research questions:(1)Do teacher’s characteristics factors such as teacher’s education background, teacher’s major, teacher’s experience, and teacher’s gender affect students’ English academic achievement?(2)Why does a certain teacher’s characteristic affect students’ academic achievement in English?(3)How should teacher’s characteristics be improved to facilitate the development of students’ academic achievement in English? This research finds that teacher’s major and experience have a significant impact on students’ English academic achievement.Teacher’s education background and gender will not affect students’ English academic achievement. The qualitative research results show that teacher’s major has an impact on students’ English academic achievement mainly because of the differences in teacher’s learning content and training methods. The influence of teacher’s experience on students’ English academic achievement is mainly due to the excellent professional quality, vitality, passion and strong teaching motivation of teachers with short teaching experience. In contrast, teachers with long teaching experience have job burnout and health problems, which will have a negative impact on students’ English academic achievement. Finally, based on the research findings, this article proposes suggestions from three aspects: strengthening the education of English normal students, strengthening post-employment education for English teachers and strengthening physical and psychological care for English teachers. This research enriches the empirical research on the impact of teacher’s characteristics on junior high school students’ English academic achievement, but there are some problems, such as insufficient sample selection, limited interviewees and so on.Follow up research can collect more samples and improve the analysis process to make the research more scientific and comprehensive.
