Abstract/Summary:
Social adaptation is a comprehensive psychological phenomenon, which is manifested as the adaptation of individuals to the social living environment.Social adaptation is an important indicator to assess the mental health level of adolescents and is crucial for the mental health development of adolescents.Attachment refers to the deep, stable, and lasting emotional connection that an individual establishes with a significant other over a long period of time.Self-esteem refers to an individual’s overall positive or negative attitude towards the self.Studies have suggested that adolescents’ attachment relationship and self-esteem level with parents and peers are important factors affecting their social adaptation.Research has shown that after attending mental health education courses, adolescents have significantly changed variables related to attachment,self-esteem,and social adaptation. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the relationship between attachment,self-esteem and social adaptation of junior high school students through questionnaire survey method, and explore the changes of parental and peer attachment,self-esteem and social adaptation scores of junior high school students after participating in mental health education courses.Study 1 used the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment(IPPA),Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale(RSES),and Middle School Student Social Adaptation Scale to measure attachment,self-esteem,and social adaptation of 425 middle school students in a Zhejiang high school.Correlation and mediation analyses were used to explore the relationship between variables. In Study 2,two groups of students from non key classes were selected as participants in Study 1,and they were divided into a psychological course group and a control group.Firstly, before the start of the course, both groups of participants were asked to complete the Parent and Peer Attachment,Self Esteem, and Social Adaptation Scale;Secondly,8 mental health education courses were conducted on the classes of the psychological course group, once a week, and the control group did not participate; Finally, after the course is over, have two groups of participants complete the post test of the above scale.Use analysis of variance to explore the changes in attachment, selfesteem, and social adaptation levels of parents and peers among middle school students after participating in mental health education courses,as well as the differences between the psychological course group and the control group.Result: Study 1 found that(1)there was a significant positive correlation between parental and peer attachment,self-esteem,and social adaptation among middle school students;(2)Self esteem has a partial mesomeric effect between parental and peer attachment and social adaptation. The second study found that(1)the Main effect of the time of social adaptation(pre-test and post test)was significant, the Main effect of the group(psychological curriculum group and control group)was significant, and the interaction between time and group was significant;(2)The time Main effect of father attachment was significant, and the interaction between time and group was significant; The time Main effect of mother attachment was significant;(3)The group Main effect of peer attachment was significant, and the interaction between time and group was significant;(4)The interaction between self-esteem time and group is significant.Conclusions:(1)Teenagers with low peer attachment and self-esteem also have lower levels of social adaptation;(2)Peer attachment can have an impact on social adaptation through self-esteem;(3)After attending an 8-week mental health education course, the students in the psychological course group showed significant improvements in their father attachment, peer attachment, and social adaptation levels compared to before the course, and were significantly higher than the control group.
