Felix Vallotton(1865-1925)was a Swiss artist who was active in France in the end of the 19 th century and the beginning of the 20 th century. As a key member of the Nabi School,he witnessed and participated in the transformation of European painting from realism to modernism. He had unique art style and contribution in the field of woodcut prints and oil painting. His personal art journey went through the period of classical painting study(1982-1892)before he joined the Nabi School. As a "Foreigner Nabi"(1892-1900)and a "Return to Classicism"(1900-1925).His existing artworks mainly includes oil paintings and woodcuts. The themes of his works cover still life, nudes, portrait, landscape and interior painting. The style and characteristics of his artworks in the three periods are quite different, and it is difficult to elaborate clearly in an essay. At present, the research on Vallotton in the Chinese art circle is not sufficient, and mainly focuses on his oil paintings after the Nabi School Period and focuses on the works of landscape. There is less research on his prints and oil paintings in the Nabi period. This essay is intended to study and summarize Felix Vallotton’s artworks and styles during Nabi Period,to explore the origin of his art styles, and to explain his contributions to the development of modern art.Meanwhile, this paper also describes the inspiration and influence of Vallotton to my watercolor and oil painting artworks. The paper can be divided into four parts: The first part briefly introduces biography of the artist, his key activities and styles. The second part introduces the art style of his woodcut prints when he was a member of the Nabi School(1892-1900),the origin of his art style, and his unique innovation in woodcut. The third part introduces his oil paintings art style during the Nabi period and after the Nabi period(after 1900),The fourth part, together with my personal experience, explains his influence and inspiration to my own artworks.
