Chen Tianhe is an influential musician,composer,educator and social activist in China in the twentieth century,and his compositions cover a variety of genres,including vocal music,instrumental music,piano works and so forth.Furthermore,his most important contribution is songwriting,among them the art songs composed by him are the best testimonies to his artistic attainments and achievements and are of great significance to the composition of art songs and the development of vocal music in China.By collecting and sorting out information related to Chen’s art songs with consideration to my personal singing experience,this paper explores and analyzes his art songs Where the Spring Has Gone and In the Mountains in terms of music analysis and singing techniques.The musical analysis involves the characteristics of musical structure,harmony analysis,characteristics of mode and melody,characteristics of aesthetic style and characteristics of rhythm and speed;while the singing techniques include timbre,breath,sound volume,speed,dynamics,coordination with accompaniment and so forth of the songs.The study of Where the Spring Has Gone and In the Mountains makes me aware that excellent Chinese art songs are highly poetic and philosophical with beautiful melodies and ingenious skills and singing more excellent Chinese art songs is of great importance for singers to enhance their singing skills and artistic accomplishment. |
