| With the process of China’s aging society,the cross-generational combination of left-behind children and empty-nest elders has become common: one has entered the end of their days while the other is about to start their lives.These two types of social groups that are most likely to be marginalized have more interwined and collided in daily life,which lead to a significant relationship: the elders and the children.Therefore,a series of movies have also emerged to present this social state.That is,the old and young movies.However,compared with foreign films of the same narrative mode,Chinese films has the problem of character construction of "despise growth and emphasize on consolation" and the narrative defect of "despise market and emphasis on concept".This article digs deep into the social and cultural factors behind this phenomenon as well as the director’s the personal intention,and thus analyzes the causes.It is believed that in the movies of old and young in China,most of the growth of children’s characters are lacking where the elders often takes center stage.This kind of character construction,which lacks the growth of children and attaches importance to the comfort of the elders,leading to the narrative defect of "despise the market and attach importance to ideas".For example,the narrative rhythm is stable and slow and the dramatic conflict is insufficient.In order to emphasize the line of elders,the combination of the elderly with traditional culture and traditional skills is strengthened,but this combination appears blunt and deliberate.Compared with foreign films of the same type,the commerciality and market awareness of old and young movies in China are lacking.In summary,these are not only closely related to the culture of respecting and taking care of the elderly that is advocated in traditional Confucianism in China,but also the child worship psychology and adult gaze in the subconscious of adults in the general environment,as well as the director’s desire for self-projection in artistic expression,all of which are further making the problem of "dispise the growth and emphasize on consolation" and "despise market emphasis on concept" in old and young movies in China more serious. |
