In 968,Vietnam formally broke away from the Central Plains dynasty and established an independent country.Since then, the two sides gradually formed a mode of suzerain-vassal relationship.During this process, the Central Plains dynasty experienced many military wars against Vietnam, including both aggression and self-defense,and more importantly, military operations initiated by assuming the duty of the suzerain to "extinct and endure".However, the nature of these wars, from the perspective of modern Vietnamese national history, has always been characterized as wars of aggression,as a consequence, even a history of Vietnam is considered a history of aggression against the northern powers. In fact, under the international system of nearly a thousand years, there were mainly seven military conflicts between China and Vietnam. The year of the war was about 30 years(including the almost 22 years in which the Ming Dynasty occupied Vietnam). The truth reveals the changes in Vietnamese scholars’ cognition of these wars,as well as the reconstruction and writing of war fields in Vietnamese classics, combined with the history of the development of the Vietnamese country,we can find that, first, the establishment of the Sino-Vietnamese suzerain-vassal relationship, development and maintenance are related to these wars.Due to the suzerain has the obligation to"extend and continue extinction, wars had become the most extreme means of running into the suzerain-vassal relationship between the two sides, and it is also the inevitable result of maintaining this relationship;Second, although Vietnam has established an independent country, the formation of national consciousness requires a common historical memory, and the “cruelty” of the Wars provides material for its shaping of national heroes and national tragic history, which makes it easier to form ethnic groups. The common sense of the country, strengthens national cohesion, and finds the "soul of the nation" for emerging countries. This research results will provide valuable thinking for an objective and rational understanding of the spirit of Vietnam and the essence of Sino-Vietnamese relations. |
