A Research On Variations Of XianYuJing

The Xianyu Jing(《贤愚经》)is a Chinese translation of Buddhist sutra,which was translated by Huijue(慧觉)and Weide(威德)in the Northern Wei Dynasty.The whole sutra consists of thirteen volumes and with sixty-two sections,each of which contains a story of karma of different lengths.And it has a distinct oral characteristics,which is of great significance to the study of middle Chinese.As a typical parables of Buddhist scriptures,The Xianyu Jing has been loved by the public and widely spread since its translation,and it was included in most sutras throughout the ages,so there were multiple editions.Different versions use different words and diction,resulting in a large number of different texts.This thesis will compare the Xianyu Jing in The Dazhengxinxiudazang Jing(《大正新修大藏经》)with the Xianyu Jing and its collation notes in the Zhonghuadazang Jing(《中华大藏经》),the remnants of Dunhuangbaozang(《敦煌宝藏》),and the Yonglebeizang(《永乐北藏》),and then make the different versions of the different articles are sorted and classified into three categories:the words of the different articles,the words of the different articles and the sentences of the different articles.Then,on this basis,using"four methods of collation"(校勘四法)to compare and analyze the variation words,collate the right and wrong,in order to sort out a more accurate and perfect version.In addition,this thesis makes use of the variation words in the Xianyu Jing to supplement the Great Chinese Dictionary,and to complement it can further help it enrich the word receiving system and enhance its use value.Besides,the thesis summarizes the distribution rules of the variant characters in the Xianyu Jing,in which the positive and negative words,the heterologous words and the deviant words are the three kinds of the highest frequency of the foreign words.And further explore the reasons,that there are three main:The first is in the process of copy,the printer or copy because of the wrong look,copy and understanding error;The second is the engraver or copy of the word,word habits caused;The third is the change of The Times,the emergence of some new words and new meanings caused by.The emergence of the variant characters in The Xianyu Jing is influenced by subjective and objective factors.Although the variant characters has caused obstacles to our reading comprehension to a certain extent,it also provides us with rich corpus for the study of characters,vocabulary,phonetics and other aspects.
