The Comparative Study Of Modern Chinese And Korean Figurative Words

Figurative words refer to those words which reflect the objective things according to the similarity between different kind of things by means of metaphor and have figurative meaning.From the perspective of contrastive linguistics,this paper,based on the corpus of dictionary entry,describes the classification of modern Chinese and Korean figurative words,and makes a comparative analysis of the relationship between Chinese and Korean figurines in the structure of tenor and vehicle,the distribution of thesaurus and the word-formation ability of vehicle,as well as the characteristics and rules of the classification of metaphor span.Then put forward feasible suggestions for the translation of Korean-Chinese figurative words.First of all,the “Modern Chinese Dictionary”(7th edition)and “Minjong Practical Korean Dictionary”(2016 revision)as the scope,sort out Chinese and Korean figurative words,and then make statistics on parts of speech and structure,describe Chinese and Korean ratios and structural characteristics.It is fond that Chinese and Korean figurative words are mainly nouns.In terns of structural relationship,Chinese figurative words attach equal attention to semi-figurative and full-figurative,while Korean figurative words tend to be semi-figurative.Secondly,the vehicle of Chinese and Korean figurative words are divided into 11 semantic categories,showing the distribution characteristics of the semantic categories of vehicle of both languages,the difference in word-making ability of various vehicle,and found that Chinese and Korean figurative words are both prefer to use five semantic categories of vehicle: nature,animal,body parts,plants,and utensils;and the vehicle which belong to the basic level category have the stronger ability to create words.Furthermore,Chinese and Korean figurative words are divided into different metaphorical span by three dimensions of looming tenor,similarities and semantic structural relations,and try to analyze the influencing factors of the metaphorical span in terms of cognitive linguistics.According to the comparison between Chinese and Korean metaphorical span,it is concluded that both small and large metaphorical span are significant in Chinese,showing the characteristics of vividness,intuition and profound meaning.While in Korean,the small metaphorical span is more significant,with a vivid and intuitive tendency.Last but not least,this paper classifies the correspondence between Korean and Chinese figurative words based on semantics and form,and finds that there are three main categories: complete correspondence,partial correspondence and non-correspondence,then proposes translation suggestions for Korean-Chinese figurative words based on the characteristics of the correspondence.
