Study On The Verbs Of Linchuan Four Dreams

Linchuan Four Dreams(The Peony Pavilion,The Story of the Purple Hairpin,The Story of Handan,The Story of Nanke)written by Tang Xianzu is over 260,000 words,the verbs have a large number of vocabulary,rich connotations and complex grammatical functions.However,the research on the verb system of Linchuan Four Dreams has not yet appeared.In this paper,the statistics of the number of words and the classification and grammatical analysis of the whole verbs of Linchuan Four Dreams are compiled,it is beneficial to show the overall overview of the use of verbs in the four dramas,and enriching the research on parts of speech in special books on early modern Chinese;A comparative study of Linchuan Four Dreams and Modern Chinese Dictionary verbs’ semantics and grammar is for discussing the objective reasons for the disappearance of some verb terms or meanings in Linchuan Four Dreams,the unbalanced presentation of grammar functions of Linchuan Four Dreams’ verbs.It proves the inheritance and development of early modern Chinese to modern Chinese.The first chapter is the introduction,which briefly introduces the origin of the research,the research status of Linchuan Four Dreams,the research purpose and significance,and the research methods and ideas of thesis writing;The second chapter investigates the determination of verbs in Linchuan Four Dreams,and discusses the criteria of verb determination and quantitative statistics combined with corpus;The third chapter expands the research on verbs of Linchuan Four Dreams.By collecting and sorting out the lyric frequency statistics of 1208 verbs in Linchuan Four Dreams,the frequency of use is as high as 51,580 times,according to the principle of combining semantic relationship and grammatical function,it is subdivided into eight categories: action,state,direction,ability,existence,perception,comparison,and order,and the grammatical characteristics of various verbs are examined with emphasis;The fourth chapter is a comparative study of the verbs of Linchuan Four Dreams and the verbs of Modern Chinese Dictionary.The analysis has two findings:First,in the semantic comparison,some verbs and meanings that were not preserved in modern Chinese were screened out.The reasons can be summarized in the following several aspects:influenced by the historical and social environment in which the text is located,restricted by subject matter and content described in the text,and requirements for the development of the verb system.Second,in the grammatical comparison,from the three aspects of verb composition,valence,and transitivity,compare the grammatical features of various verbs in Linchuan Four Dreams and Modern Chinese Dictionary;The last is the conclusion,pointing out the basic viewpoints and shortcomings of the thesis.The basic conclusions of this study show that:First,the verbs of Linchuan Four Dreams are huge in number,diverse in variety,and basically complete in grammatical functions;Second,the grammatical system of Linchuan Four Dreams verbs is stable,but on the one hand,the use of them is not balanced.On the other hand,the disappearance of some verb terms or meanings in modern Chinese shows the relative fragility of the vitality of the characteristic vocabulary;Third,the verbs of Linchuan Four Dreams,which is in the transition period between early modern Chinese and modern Chinese,it plays its own role in the inheritance and development of Chinese verbs,and also presents its own characteristics.
