The report, guided by relevance theory,is based on the Chinese translation examples of the first thirteen chapters of children’s literature A Wish in the Dark, aiming to explore the specific application of relevance theory in the Chinese translation of children’s literature from lexical, syntactic and contextual levels. The report analyzes the effective translation methods to achieve the best relevance in the Chinese translation of children’s literature and the ways to help children readers to achieve the best contextual effect. At the lexical level, according to the cognitive characteristics of children readers, reduplication, onomatopoeia or oral idiomatic expressions can be appropriately adopted to increase the rhythm, musicality and interestingness, which can stimulate children readers’ reading interest;at the syntactic level, according to the limited reading ability of children readers and the fact that short sentences are easier for children readers to read and understand compared with long sentences, long sentence segmentation and word order adjustment are often employed to avoid redundant sentence patterns, which is in line with children’s reading habits and acceptability;at the context level, the specific context being concluded from the original text, the dialogue translation are handled appropriately so as to help the target readers understand the exact information that the author aims to convey to the maximum extent and enhance the vividness of the translation of children’s literature to reproduce the fun.Relevance theory, based on the translation practice,is found to have theoretical guiding significance for the translation of children’s literature.Flexible translation methods can be adopted so as to help children readers make the least effort to obtain the best relevance, and create a reading experience similar to that of the original readers when they read the source text.
