| Based on the Chinese translation examples of the first five chapters of children’s literature Merci Suárez Changes Gears,this translation practice report analyzes the stylistic features of children’s literature from the lexical,syntactic and cultural levels within the framework of Relevance Theory,aiming to explore the effective translation methods to achieve the optimal relevance in the C hinese translation of children’s literature,making the translation easier to be accepted by children,and obtaining the optimal context understanding.At the lexical level,according to the cognitive characteristics of children,onomatopoeia,reduplication and colloquial words can be properly used in the translation to reproduce the fun and vividness of children’s literature and make the translation conform to children’s expectation of rhythmic beauty and colloquial style.At the syntactic level,segmentation of long sentences and adjustment of sentence order can be adopted to enhance the fluency of the translation considering the reading requirements of children.At the cultural level,domestication or foreignization can be chosen according to the specific cognitive context of children.Domestication strategy helps to reduce the barriers of children’s reading process and understanding;while foreignization strategy retains the foreign cultural characteristics,making the translation more interesting and informative,and broadens the cultural vision of children.Relevance Theory,based on the translation practice,is found to play a guiding role in the E-C translation of children’s literature.Translators,adopting different translation methods,should establish the optimal relevance between children and the translation so as to make the translation conform to children’s reading expectations. |
