English writing is the deep output of the three professional skills of listening,speaking and reading,and a necessary way to realize the English translation.Therefore,English writing is the core element of the five professional skills of English subjects,a necessary purpose of English learners,and an effective way for English learners to achieve free language output.From 2016,continuation writing began to be applied to the college entrance examination.However,most of the writing classes still adopt the traditional teaching mode,and the teaching effect of continuation writing is not good.Therefore,in order to stimulate students’ interest in continuation writing,improve students’ continuation writing strategies,optimize students’ continuation effect,exploring efficient continuation writing teaching strategies is particularly important.The multi-modal discourse analysis theory focuses on the different modes of the different communication symbols,the mutual relationship between the different modes,and the overall characteristics and comprehensive functions that they embody.In recent years,the multimedia technology has been developed rapidly.At the same time,the foreign language teaching under the background of multimedia has also been paid attention to by scholars and foreign language teachers.How to give full play to the combined advantages of multimedia and improve the quality of foreign language teaching has become the focus of teaching and research.This study can provide theoretical basis and practical examples for multimodal choice in foreign language teaching,and provide theoretical reference for future foreign language teaching practice.This study lasted one semester.Students from Grade 2,Class 1 and Grade 2,Class 3 of a high school in Huludao,84 students were selected as the subjects of experimental research.This study uses quantitative and qualitative analysis method to analyse the results of the research to detect the teaching effect of continuation writing based on multimodal discourse analysis theory.The analysis results of this study show that: first,the teaching mode based on multimodal discourse analysis theory improves students ’learning interest and stimulates their learning motivation;second,the teaching mode based on multimodal discourse analysis theory improves students’ learning strategy;Third,the comprehensive use of sound,image,text,video and other modes,and the organic combination of continuation writing teaching mode,can optimize students ’learning effect and improve students’ learning ability.
