Reading and writing are two important skills that foreign language learners must master.In real English teaching classroom,especially in primary and high school,English teachers tend to separate the correlations between reading and writing teaching or do not combine them well,just let students read a text and then set a writing task for students,which ignore the correlations between reading and writing.Therefore,it has caused a major problem that the improvement of middle school students’ English writing ability is very difficult.Taking 82 students from two natural classes in Yichang foreign languages senior high school as the test subjects—— class 5 is the experimental group and class 7 is the control group,this dissertation adopts the continuation method to study the effect of continuation teaching on the cultivation of high school students’ English writing ability by using continuation teaching that lasts three month to experimental class,based on the learning promotion mechanism of the X-argument.Then analyze the influence of the continuation method on the quality of the continued writing output through the writing texts written by the students.This research mainly aims to explore the following two questions:(1)Can continuation effectively improve students’ English writing ability?(2)In what ways does the continuation improve students’ English writing ability?The research results show that:(1)Continuation teaching can effectively improve students’ English writing ability.Through data analysis,it can be concluded that the writing scores of the experimental group students are significantly higher than those of the control group.(2)The improvement of students’ English writing ability is mainly reflected in vocabulary,grammar,semantics,text structure,etc.In terms of vocabulary,students can use vocabulary appropriately and reasonably in the context.In terms of grammar,the problems of grammatical errors and cohesion between sentences have been correspondingly improved.Students can use related words appropriately when writing continuations.The logic is enhanced and the students’ critical thinking abilities are also improved.From the perspective of semantics,students can write what they want to express based on the topic of the article.And for structure,the chapter structure of the article is reasonable and coherent.Therefore,this research has the following enlightenment——In senior high school English reading teaching,teachers select a story or an interesting reading text,divide it into several parts.Then through the continuation teaching,it could enhance the interactive intensity between students and reading text to let students have a better understanding toward reading text.It can effectively improve the language quality of students’ continued writing,thereby improving students’ English writing ability.
