Research On The Narrative Strategy Of The "LIGHT ON" Series Of Web Suspense Dramas

In recent years,with the development trend of domestic web dramas becoming more and more typified and refined,web suspense dramas stand out among various types of web dramas by virtue of their unique narrative style and sophisticated audio-visual production methods.In 2020,web suspense dramas ushered in a blowout growth.Among them,phenomenal dramas such as "THE LONG NIGHT" and "THE BAD KIDS" performed the best,which prompted the series web suspense dramas IQIYI’S "LIGHT ON" launched have become a very influential weather vane and attracted widespread attention.This article takes the series web suspense dramas IQIYI’S "LIGHT ON" as the research object,mainly using the relevant principles of narratology as the theoretical basis,from the perspective of narrative strategy analysis,to explore its distinctive features in narrative and the aesthetics it achieves,effect,and its enlightenment to the future development of web suspense dramas.The article divided into five chapters.The first chapter analyzes and summarizes the birth background of IQIYI’S "LIGHT ON",which is closely related to the rapid development of web suspense dramas in recent years and the operation trend of "theatricalization" of video platforms.It is briefly described in terms of genre style,theme expression,and word-of-mouth performance.The second to fourth chapters are the focus of this article,and they are analyzed from three aspects: character building,narrative structure,and narrative plot.The study found that the prominent features of the series web suspense dramas IQIYI’S "LIGHT ON" are that they focus on "criminals",supplemented by "policemen",have more diverse designs for female images,and highly observe human nature.It focuses on depicting the psychological evolution of characters under multiple incentives;in terms of narrative structure,it more innovatively uses narrative structures such as multi-line narrative,dual-line narrative,and loopback narrative,and constructs intricate mazes in the interweaving of time and space;in the design of the narrative plot,it presents the style characteristics of strong plot,fast rhythm,heavy suspense,and multiple reversals.A thought-provoking puzzle-solving journey.At the same time,in these three chapters,this article critically analyzes the reasons for the uneven reputation of IQIYI’S "LIGHT ON" since it aired for two seasons.The fifth chapter puts IQIYI’S "LIGHT ON" in the context of web suspense dramas,reflects on the problems it encounters now,tries to summarize countermeasures,and summarizes its past breakthroughs and enlightenments,it is expected to contribute to the future development and theoretical research of web suspense dramas.
