A Study On Deng Yizhe’s Calligraphy Aesthetics

Deng Yizhe(1892-1973),born in Huaining,Anhui Province,was the fifth generation grandson of Deng Shiruzhi,a great calligrapher and seal engraver in the Qing Dynasty.He was also the father of Deng Jiaxian,who was known as the "founding father of two bombs".Deng Yizhe was an outstanding aesthetician.He was also one of the founders of modern Chinese aesthetics.Deng Yizhe was contemporary with Zong Baihua,a famous contemporary aesthetician.He was expert in Chinese and Western studies.On the one hand,he inherited and developed traditional Chinese art theory.On the other hand,he integrated and combined Western aesthetic ideas.In general,Deng Yizhe’s aesthetic thoughts,especially his theory of painting and calligraphy,had made great contributions to modern Chinese aesthetics.This paper takes Deng Yizhe’s calligraphy aesthetics as the main research object.By sorting out and analyzing Deng Yizhe’s exploration and reflection on calligraphy,diging deeper connotations in his theoretical system,this thesis tries to conduce to contemporary calligraphy theory and practice.This article is divided into six parts.The introduction mainly introduces the paper’s significance,current situation of research and research approaches.Chapter one is concerned with the origin and development of calligraphy.It summarizes the laws of the development of calligraphy by combing the birth of Chinese characters and exploring the beauty of Chinese characters.The second chapter mainly discusses the beauty of Chinese character.It analyzes the characteristics,writing methods and aesthetic properties of each font on the basis of combing seal,official script,regular script and cursive.The third chapter focuses on the art of arrangement.It explores the art of arrangement in calligraphy by studying the outside form and the inner spirit.The fourth chapter takes artistic conception in calligraphy as the theme.It studies the artistic conception which Deng Yizhe understood and analyzes the relationship between artistic conception and other concepts from three aspecrs:artistic conception and form,artistic conception and spirituality,artistic conception and art vitality.The conclusion is the summary and reflection on Deng Yizhe’s calligraphy aesthetics...
