An E-C Translation Report On Navigating Loneliness:How To Connect With Yourself And Others(Chapters Four And Five)

In recent years,social mental health problems have frequently occurred,and psychological problems have become increasingly prominent social problems.Inspirational books are very popular in China,some high-quality foreign language inspirational books have been translated into China,and domestic readers have a strong demand for inspirational books.Therefore,it has certain practical significance and application value to study the translation of inspirational books and discuss translation strategies and translation methods.For this translation task,the translator chose chapters four and five of the work Navigating Loneliness: How to Connect with Yourself and Others by Cheryl Rickman,a famous British author,as the translation targets.The aim is to explore appropriate translation strategies and methods to accurately convey the message and emotion of the source text according to its linguistic characteristics and text type.This mental health handbook is an inspirational book.The author hopes to make readers reunderstand loneliness and stimulate their desire for social interaction through practical advice.The language of the book is short and concise,and the text style is more colloquial.Therefore,in the process of translation,the translator adopts the methods of conversion,amplification,negation and reconstructing to make up for the differences between Chinese and English,so as to achieve the effect that the readers of the translated text have the same reading feeling as the readers of the original text.This translation practice report consists of four parts.The first part is the description of the translation task,including background,content,significance and report structure;the second part is the description of the translation process,which includes three aspects: preparation,translation procedure and revision;the third part is the core part of translation case analysis,mainly from the translation of words,the translation of titles,and the translation of sentences to discuss the problems encountered by translators in the process of translation,the translation methods adopted and the effects produced;the last part is the summary of the translation practice activity,which is specifically divided into two parts: experience and reflection.Through this translation practice,the translator realized that the translation of inspirational books should follow the meaning of the original text and conform to the expression habits of the target text readers.
